Pam Evelyn: The Wild Asphalt

About the exhibition
Nine new canvases hang with works on paper made in the past year, in Pam Evelyn's first solo exhibition in Korea. The canvases are abstract, built up in oil paint that is dripped, scraped back and layered. Pace says they respond to scenes in London: sunset on concrete, graffiti, buildings mirrored in big windows. Titles such as Figure and Tower and Sun between Stone point to them, though Evelyn says nothing in the work is depicted or identified.
The works on paper combine watercolor, acrylic, pastel, charcoal, ink and collage, with more transparency and open space than the paintings. Pace says this is its first exhibition to include them.
Evelyn made the works in London and during a September 2026 residency at Dragon Hill on the French Riviera. Evelyn says "each painting always offers up new problems."
