About the exhibition

Records are easier to make and store than ever, Gana Art observes, and precisely because they can be retrieved at any moment, many are never opened again. This group show treats such records as lost property: they regain their place only when someone comes back to look.

Choe Inyoung, who grew up in a fishing village in Taean on Korea's west coast, works with nets once used by fishers, family videotapes and objects left in the family yard; one piece is a house sewn into a fishing net. Kim Sora follows letters written by a Korean nurse sent to Germany in the 1970s, along with the records of women who worked in factories during Korea's industrialization. Nozomi Suzuki coats long-used objects with photosensitive emulsion and prints onto them the scenes they would once have faced. Léa Belooussovitch redraws press photographs of disasters on felt in colored pencil, turning images that flash past on the news into blurred fields that ask for long looking.

The gallery describes the four artists as carrying other people's time into their own work, and invites visitors to become the ones who find these traces.
