Lee Kyung-mo: The Weight of Ordinary Days
이경모: 같은 무게의 날들
About the exhibition
Lee Kyung-mo's photographs of key moments in modern Korean history sit beside pictures of how people lived at the time, on the third to fifth floors of the Hongdae gallery. The show marks 100 years since the photographer's birth.
Wikitree reports that it includes rare vintage prints, meaning prints from the photographer's own era, bearing Lee's signature, and about 60 cameras from Dongshin University's Lee Kyung-mo Camera Museum. The same report says unseen diaries and a Korean War reporting notebook are shown for the first time, and that the show also looks at ordinary citizens and the upper class during 1960s industrialization.
Wikitree says Dongshin University is holding the tour jointly with the three venues. It moves on to the Asia Culture Center in Gwangju from March 2 to April 23, 2027, and then to the GoEun Museum of Photography in Busan.
About the artist
Lee Kyung-mo was born in 1926 in Gwangyang, South Jeolla Province. Wikitree reports that Lee worked as a photographer for the Honam Shinmun, now the Gwangju Ilbo, made the horrors of the Yeosu-Suncheon events known, covered the Korean War at the front and helped found the Korean Photographers Association. The same report places the archive with Dongshin University's Lee Kyung-mo Camera Museum, the photographer's family and Gwangyang City.
