About the exhibition

KAWS's first solo institutional show in Korea looks at the strain inside close relationships, with friends we choose and neighbors we happen to live beside. The new CHUM works show the characters in physical conflict, in painted settings or as sculptures sharing the room with visitors. Newsis reports that the paintings newly place them in a playground, a room and a backyard.

The 20 works are mostly large paintings and sculptures. They include THERAPY (2025), a three-part canvas of eleven CHUMs holding pictures of the sea. Newsis reports that the sculpture FELLOW is first shown here. Kiaf's coverage also names NECK AND NECK (2026), a bronze over two meters tall, the painting THE RED BALL and MEASURING SHADOWS, in bronze and concrete. An English audio guide is available.

About the artist

KAWS is the working name of Brian Donnelly, born in Jersey City in 1974 and based in Brooklyn. Donnelly studied at the School of Visual Arts, graduating in 1996, and began with street graffiti and interventions on advertising. The work now spans painting, murals, design for print and products and large sculpture, centered on X-eyed characters that blend cartoon sources. Galerie Max Hetzler lists solo shows at the Brooklyn Museum (2021), Serpentine (2022) and SFMOMA (2025–26), with work in collections such as the Brooklyn Museum and the National Gallery of Victoria.
