500 Years of Spanish Art: Velázquez to Sorolla
스페인 미술 500년: 빛과 어둠의 연대기
About the exhibition
You follow 95 paintings in time order through six sections, The Korea Economic Daily reports. They begin with medieval religious painting and the Renaissance, then move through Baroque painting, Goya and Romanticism, open-air painting, scenes of everyday life and modern painting. The paper co-organizes the show with The Hispanic Society Museum & Library in New York and gives its range as the 15th century to the early 20th.
Works the paper describes include a Holy Family by El Greco from about 1585, a Velázquez portrait of Camillo Astalli from 1650 to 1651, and portraits by Joaquín Sorolla. It also singles out Goya's full-length portrait Don Manuel Lapeña (1799).
The paper describes the Hispanic Society as a New York institution opened in 1908 to study and collect art of Spain, Portugal and Latin America. It says this is the first time the collection has met audiences in Asia.
