About the exhibition

A painting at mural scale covers PKM's largest wall. Around it are shaped panels that appear to emerge from the paintings, along with drawings. Every work is new. Listed works use acrylic, color pencil and graphite on canvas or linen, including two 2026 canvases of 195 by 295 cm, I'm the Hole and Off the Hook.

Young Do Jeong works by responding to images on the canvas, then erasing, overpainting and looking again. The gallery stresses this process over a planned result.

The title plays on three meanings: "I," "eye" and the Korean word for child, ai. The gallery reads it as a self that drifts and changes through relationships. This is the artist's first solo show at PKM in five years, following Bury me (2021).

About the artist

Young Do Jeong (b. 1985) earned a BFA in painting at Rhode Island School of Design and an MFA in painting and drawing at Temple University's Tyler School of Art. PKM Gallery describes narrative work drawn from growing up in two cultures, East and West, that moves past the line between abstract and representational art. PKM's earlier shows of the artist include Stream, Streaming Persona (2015) and Wild n Out with Hernan Bas (2017).
