Modern Art in Times of Change: Masterpieces from Kunsthaus Zürich
모던 아트의 탄생: 스위스 쿤스트하우스 취리히 소장품 특별전
About the exhibition
Eighty-five paintings and sculptures on loan from Kunsthaus Zürich fill Special Exhibition Gallery 1. The museum says they trace how European modern art began and developed from the 18th to the 20th century. Co-organizer Seoul Shinmun dates them from the 1760s to the 1950s, through Impressionism and Surrealism.
The museum names Monet, Chagall, Matisse, Picasso, Brancusi, Kandinsky, Magritte and Dalí, along with Swiss artists including Hodler, Klee and Giacometti. Its examples include an 1892 Hodler self-portrait and Matisse's Margot from 1906. The Korea Herald highlights Monet's The Houses of Parliament, Sunset, Kandinsky's Black Spot and Giacometti's The Forest.
Seoul Shinmun reports that this is Kunsthaus Zürich's first exhibition in Korea. It also reports works from the Zürich Dada movement, an early-20th-century art movement, and a Sophie Taeuber-Arp triptych. The paper says the Zürich museum is Switzerland's largest, and that more than two-thirds of its collection came through private gifts or long-term loans.
