About the exhibition

Seventy works by 60 artists from ARKO Art Center's collection are set out decade by decade in Galleries 1 and 2, from the 1970s to the 2000s, with material on the museum's own exhibition history. Entry is free. Dailian reports that the collection holds 423 works.

The 1970s section has about a dozen works by ten artists, placing Dansaekhwa (Korean monochrome painting) beside experimental art, geometric abstraction and hyperrealism. The 1980s section has more than twenty works in painting, sculpture, craft and printmaking, covering the rise of Minjung art, a realist movement, against modernism. It includes unexhibited pieces by Park Saengkwang.

The 1990s section centers on the New Generational Tendency series (1992–2002), which introduced artists mostly in their 30s, among them Rhee Kibong and Yang Mankee. The 2000s section follows the museum's 2004 decision to end decades of rental exhibitions and move to thematic shows, along with the shift toward video and installation.

An archive section adds photographs and findings from six research fellows.
