Bonjour, Sempé: The World in Lines
봉주르, 장자크 상페: 세상을 그린 시선
About the exhibition
About 130 works and archive items are on view: original drawings, posters, prints and publications, along with tools Sempé used and material showing how each drawing came together. The venue says the show comes nearly ten years after the previous Sempé exhibition in Korea and marks the 140th anniversary of France–Korea diplomatic relations.
KB Think, a KB Kookmin Bank publication, reports that the drawings were selected from the Sempé Archive and fall into six themes: Paris, Provence, musicians, humor drawings, Le Petit Nicolas and other stories.
The museum is on the second floor of Building C at One Grove. Financial News reports that the One Grove mall connects directly to Magok Station on Line 5, with a walkway to Magoknaru Station.
About the artist
Jean-Jacques Sempé (1932–2022) was born in Bordeaux. Designboom reports that the first Le Petit Nicolas story, written by René Goscinny and illustrated by Sempé, appeared on March 29, 1959, and that Sempé drew more than 100 New Yorker covers from 1978, more than any other artist.
