Lee Hyein: 7 Stages
이혜인: 7 Stages
About the exhibition
Lee Hyein has long painted outdoors, setting down a place on the canvas together with the artist's own body and the time spent there. In 7 Stages, curator Kim Sung Woo writes, Lee steps back from painting landscapes in front of the motif and turns to painting itself, the medium that has always stood between artist and subject.
Places are translated into scenes formed by memory and experience stored in the body. Each becomes what the curator calls a choreographic stage, generating its own rhythmic sense of place.
Primary Practice now occupies a basement space in Buam-dong, on the same street as the Seoul Museum, so the two can be seen in one trip. The show is supported by Arts Council Korea.
